CDVCA is excited to congratulate Chris Miller on his appointment by the U.S. Department of Treasury as the new Director of the CDFI Fund.
Chris is a pioneer and leading practitioner of community development venture capital. He has been an active member of CDVCA, participating in Peer Group meetings, conferences, and co-investment activities. Chris began work in the CDVC industry more than two decades ago, while still a grad student at the University of Tennessee, as an intern with CDVCA board member Grady Vanderhoofven. He worked with Grady and former CDVCA board chair Ray Moncrief, first as an intern in business school and then as Analyst, at two pioneering CDVC funds: the South Appalachian Fund and Meritus Ventures. After a stint in banking, Chris returned to work with Grady for the past 10 years as CFO of Three Roots Capital, a certified CDFI and CDVC fund in Knoxville, TN, which both invests in and lends to job-creating businesses in Appalachia.
For over two decades, Chris has been strongly dedicated to the CDVC vision of making flexible, equity, risk capital available to high-growth businesses in low-income areas to create good jobs, productive wealth, and entrepreneurial capacity in underinvested communities. We look forward to working with Chris to strengthen the work of the CDFI Fund and to make its programs more responsive to the CDVC industry.
